I wanted to post a fun kids Easter project that's fun, easy AND creative! Well, what's easier and more fun to make with your kids than good ol' Rice Krispy Bars, but with a little twist?! I saw this cute idea in a magazine and thought it'd be fun to share. So, here it goes.........we're gonna make some Rice Krispy birds nests! c;
Here's the ingredients you'll need:
6 Cups Rice Krispies
4 Cups Mini Marshmallows
3 T. butter
Nutella (Hazelnut spread)
1 Cup Coconut
3 - 4 drops or 1/8 tsp Green food color
Toppings - Jelly Beans, Easter Malt Balls & Easter M&M's
Make Rice Krispy's according to your box directions..
Then, while the mixture is cooling so that little hands can touch it.....put a cup of coconut in a large sealable baggie, drop in 3 - 4 drops of green food coloring, SEAL the bag and shake - shake - shake! You'll see the coconut turn to bright green grass...
Now the fun part.....butter up your hands and take a handful of mixture and drop in one of the cups of your muffin tin. Then, you want to press with your thumbs JUST in the middle of the mixture so that you can make a little indentation for your nesting goodies. I sprayed the cups with Pam before filling to make sure they came out easily, but if you miss this step, I'm sure they'll pop out just fine!
Now, start spreading in your Nutella....I used about 1/2 - 3/4 tsp. to each nest and spread it in the middle like a frosting. (If you can't find Nutella or you just prefer a chocolate - peanut butter frosting instead, I've used a half container of store bought chocolate frosting and a heaping tblsp. of peanut butter before and just mix together to make a yummy filling too!)
Now, pop them out on a fun plate or pop them in a cupcake wrapper.... then, print out your guests name on the computer, tape the name to a toothpick and stick it in your snack / dessert for an adorable place setting for all your loved ones at Easter dinner! Have fun! ( :
